Abstract
In the paper, the author indicates, based on an economic model and statistical data analysis, the justification of protectionist policy applied with a particular consideration of the educational customs duty. In accordance with the development stages, of Friedrich List, he indicates that the educational customs duty may be perceived as one of the stages of economic policy, whose ultimate objective is to increase the competitiveness in the domestic market and, in consequence, to join the vortex of free trade. Although, in a short period of time, economic costs of customs duties introduction may be high, practically all states, proponents of free trade, together with Great Britain, promoting their industry conducted in the initial stage of capitalist governance the policy of high customs rates which at the end brought about a change in the system of comparative costs.
